In actuality Rhetoric is very similar to literary theory. It is examining the a piece, be it a photo or written in its context. Nonetheless it does force you think and analyze, but hopefully no headaches.
Teaching Students how to speak or write for an audience involves teaching them about Rhetoric
All three parts of the triangle are needed when deciding on the message you want to send out to the choosen audience.
Who is your crowd?
What message do you want your crowd to receive from your speech, essay, or photo?
If your text is presented with power and evidence your audience is more likely to be persuaded!
