Understand the components of an essay and how to summarize a nonfiction text.

8.W.2: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content.

8.RIT.2: Determine a central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including its relationship to supporting ideas; provide an objective summary of the text.

Use student created content to teach the concepts of components of a paragraph as well as how to write a summary. These are both the first unit of the year.
