Subatomic Particles

Author: Amanda Soderlind

Atoms are the smallest amount of an element you can have. Atoms of an element are specific to each element and are made up of particles called protons, neutrons and electrons. Protons are a particle found in the nucleus of an atom that has a positive charge. Neutrons are particles also found in the nucleus of the atom that have a neutral charge. Electrons are particles found outside the nucleus of an atom in an electron cloud that have a negative charge. The positive charges of the protons attract the negative charges of the electrons.  The size of electrons is relatively small compared to the size of neutrons and protons.
