Hi. My name is Ashley, and welcome to the Summary of Analyzing Comprehensive Performance Assessment and Evaluation Systems. In this tutorial, we will briefly review the main concepts that you learned in this unit. This unit focused on analyzing your school's evaluation system. We identified how models reflect the Danielson or Marzano frameworks. We also evaluated components of the evaluation process and reflected on the use of rubrics and feedback during evaluation. Let's take a look at each of these concepts more closely.
This unit focused on teaching you the process of analyzing your school's evaluation system. We modeled how you would first start with the domains to understand each element. Then we looked at a rubric and analyzed what the proficient rating looks like in the classroom. You may recall the rubric also may show descriptors that you can use to ensure you are demonstrating the expected outcome. Use these descriptors to help improve your teaching practices.
You may recall that many evaluation models are very similar due to the fact that many models are adapted from either Danielson or Marzano. In this unit, we identified how those models reflect those frameworks. We know that Danielson and Marzano both worked to evaluate and support teachers. However, Danielson's main focus is to evaluate teacher effectiveness, and Marzano emphasizes the use of teacher evaluation to support teacher development.
We then used a current teacher evaluation model and identified how the model encompasses both Danielson and Marzano, as well as domains that are unique to the division. This will help you as you analyze and understand your teacher evaluation model and how it was designed.
This unit focused on evaluating components of the evaluation process, such as feedback, professional learning communities, data, measurement tools, and other components. We reviewed how to turn feedback into actionable feedback, and we identified types of professional learning communities, such as critical friends groups, that can support teachers during the evaluation process. Going through the evaluation process can be difficult, as well as deciphering the information presented to you. Understanding feedback and professional learning communities can benefit teachers during this process.
Lastly, we reflected on the use of rubrics and feedback. We understand that analyzing the rubrics of our teacher evaluation models helps us to understand what a proficient rating looks like and can benefit us during the evaluation process. Also, what happens after you receive feedback? We went over the steps on how to use feedback in order to make an improvement plan using a PDSA cycle. This will help you to put your feedback into action and begin seeing results.
Let's briefly recap the main components of this unit. This unit focused on analyzing your school's evaluation system. We identified how models reflect the Danielson or Marzano frameworks. We evaluated components of the evaluation process and reflected on the use of rubrics and feedback during evaluation.
Congratulations! You have completed the unit on analyzing comprehensive performance assessment and evaluation systems. With your newfound knowledge, you can use your teacher evaluation system with confidence. With your new skills, you should be able to analyze your teacher evaluation rubrics and understand what a proficient rating involves, decipher between Danielson and Marzano framework elements, transform feedback to actionable feedback, select models based on student growth, create an improvement plan, and so much more.
As always, please view the Additional Resources section for further information in any of these areas to deepen your learning on becoming an effective teacher.
