Hi. My name is Ashley, and welcome to the summary to apply professional growth and improvement strategies. In this tutorial, we will briefly review the learning objectives that you learned in this unit. This unit analyzed strategies for engaging feedback and reviewed components of professional improvement plans. This unit also focused on demonstrating steps to monitoring progress and accountability. Lastly, it identified reflection strategies that can be used during the professional development process. Let's take a look at these objectives a little more closely.
This unit focused a lot on analyzing strategies for engaging feedback. Feedback is used throughout the professional development process. Feedback is a skill that should be perfected in order to reap the benefits. We talked about different forms of feedback tools, such as forms, videos, and student data. The unit also covered feedback skills such as active listening and accountable talk. Incorporate these tools and skills to utilize feedback effectively.
The unit focused on the review of professional improvement plan components. We identified best practices when developing goals and professional improvement plans. When developing goals, always design them to address the problem. Be specific. When developing a plan, utilize a PDSA. A Plan, Do, Study, Act cycle will help you organize your plan and reflect on what is going well and what is not. Lastly, collaboration of feedback is key. Use the feedback and conversations from your colleagues, instructional coaches, and even your students to implement changes.
The unit demonstrated steps to monitoring progress and accountability. It focused on evaluating strategies for progress. This can be done by using the final stage in the PDSA, which allows teachers to adjust expectations and develop changes if need be. We reviewed certain situations when it may be suitable to make changes to the plan-- for example, if your students are not making progress or if your goals and plans are not aligned with school and district initiatives.
Lastly, we demonstrated how student assessments are used for accountability. These assessments are evidence of student success. These skills are needed as you plan and go through the professional development process.
And lastly, we identified reflection strategies. Reflection is a good tool for teachers to use as they brainstorm instructional improvement strategies. This unit focused on reflection strategies such as discussions, interviews, reflective questions, lesson review, and logs and journals. These tools can benefit teachers by providing opportunities for reflective thinking and brainstorm.
Instructional coaches also help teachers in the reflection process. Instructional coaches can guide teachers as they reflect by asking those reflective questions and being there to go over responses with the teacher. As we mentioned before, there are many benefits of reflection. Reflection gives teachers insight and allows teachers to think about what is working and what is not. Reflection is a needed component of the professional development process.
Let's briefly review the learning objectives of this unit. This unit analyzed strategies for engaging feedback. It reviewed components of professional improvement plans. The unit also focused on demonstrating steps to monitoring progress and accountability. Lastly, it identified reflection strategies that can be used during the professional development process.
