Now that you are at the end of this unit, you are able to analyze the standards aligned to your subject area and the ISTE technology standards. You're able to analyze standards based instruction and grading, and competency based evaluation using the frameworks of Marzano, Guskey, and Hattie. You're able to create a proficiency scale using the Marzano framework, your subject's standards, and the ISTE standards. You've been able to reflect on how proficiency based instruction and evaluation will change your practice as an educator.
Analyze the alignment between the subject area standards and the technology standards. You are able to analyze that Danielson and National Board Teacher research-based teacher practice standards, create lessons aligned to the outcomes and objectives to both the subject area standards and the appropriate technology standards, and finally, you are able to reflect on your teacher practices, using either the Charlotte Danielson Framework or the National Board Teacher Standards.
So the first objective that you got to really focused in on this unit was analyze the standards aligned to your subject area and the ISTE technology standards. As a part of this, you really got the opportunity to first and foremost focus in on all of the different state standards. You got the opportunity to investigate different ways that you could align various content standards with the ISTE standards and the steps you would take. And finally, you got the opportunity to look at taking those steps and really transitioning them into learning objectives and kid friendly language.
I'd also encourage you to think about how your new knowledge of this information can really be used in a professional way to help the learning and development of other teachers at your school. Now, let's take a look at the second objective, analyzed standards based instruction in grading and competency based evaluation using the frameworks Marzano, Guskey, and Hattie. You got the opportunity to really investigate the similarities and the differences between standards and competencies and what those looked like in your classroom.
You also got the opportunity to look at a lot of the best practices and tips for aligning those standards and implementing that standards based instruction into your classroom. Finally, you got the opportunity to really focus in on the key players, Marzano, Guskey, and Hattie. You got to look at all that they have to offer in terms of their knowledge of standards based grading, and how you can learn from them to apply elements in your classroom.
The third objective that we looked at stated, create a proficiency scale using the Marzano framework, your subject standards, and the ISTE standards. This, I think, was one of the most practical objectives of the unit, where you got a chance to look at how do I find my content standard and my ISTE standard? And then, what are the tools that are available to really break down the creation of the proficiency scale? Specifically, you got the opportunity to review the Marzano frameworks if you were familiar with it, the different ways in which we go about creating a proficiency scale, the process and the steps that are involved so you understood it in theory.
And then, you got the opportunity to look at some wonderful tools that are available to you to help you create those proficiency scales and implement them with ease. You looked at the objective, reflect on how proficiency based instruction and evaluation will change your practice. This objective really focused in on the process of reflection, and gave you specific tools, not just the theory of why you should do it, but the specific tools to help you implement it.
First, I showed you some of the tools that really show how proficiency based instruction can help speed up your work, and the Marzano teacher evaluation framework, another tool that shows you how to specifically implement the element of reflection. You really got the opportunity to review why reflection is so important, and how you can use it, and when you should use it to really help change and alter your practices.
The alignment between the subject area standards and the technology standards, you got the opportunity to really look at the intersection of those standards and competencies, to see how they flow between each other. How you can use specific content area standards focusing on how you are able to scaffold so that you aren't trying to ask your students to do too much at one time. And finally, the process of picking out the standard, aligning it to a specific ISTE students standard, and get at those student outcomes that have real life purpose for those students. This is a very hands on objective, and you got to see how these practices will look for you as an educator within your classes.
Analyzing the Danielson and National Board Teacher research-based teacher practice standards, this was a really informational objective. You got the opportunity to put them side-by-side- and see how they are very similar, as well as the areas where they differed to hopefully devise which one you are most interested in using in your teaching practices. You also got the opportunity to see the way in which they can be used when having those peer-to-peer review situations.
You got to see some of the good and bad practices in traditional versus the standards based grading, the process of creating the proficiency scale. And finally, you got to look at the way in which you can align specific content standards to specific technology standards and create those outcomes and objectives. Finally, you got the opportunity to reflect on your teacher practices using either the Charlotte Danielson Framework or the National Board Teacher standards.
You were able to look at both, what that lesson plan looked like, a reminder or a review of how you created that lesson plan. And then, with that information, you got to see the way in which one could reflect using the Danielson Framework, and the way one could reflect using the National Board Teacher standards. We walked through the creation of the lesson plan, and how I would reflect on that lesson plan, and that gave you the opportunity to really hear another teacher in your similar situation reflect on their lesson using these means.
I think this one is another one that's exceptionally beneficial to you both professionally and personally, giving you very concrete information on how to reflect on what you're doing in the classroom, as well as perhaps a way for you to reflect on what's happening in other areas of your life. Take a look now that you are done with this unit at those four learning objectives that you are now able to achieve, and remember that we kind of stair stepped them so that we were able to focus in on the subject area standards and technology standards, and then look at their alignment to create lessons that are aligned in those areas. You also got the opportunity to really dig deep into the Danielson Framework and the National Board Teacher Practice standards, and then use those to reflect on your teacher practices and the way in which you can improve the information that you are getting to your students.
Analyze those standards align to your subject area and the technology standards. You're able to analyze the standards based instruction and grading in competency based evaluation using the frameworks from Marzano, Guskey, and Hattie. You're able to create a proficiency scale using the Marzano framework, your subject standards, and the ISTE standards.
Finally, you've been able to reflect on how proficiency based instruction evaluation will change your practice as an educator. That's all we have. I can't wait to see you for hopefully another unit.
