Hello, everyone, and welcome. Today's video will serve as a quick summary to the unit you just completed on implementing competency-based instruction and evaluation. We'll look at some of the highlights and reflect on your learning. Let's get started.
The major objectives center around these four key words-- analyze, align, create, and reflect. We learned how to analyze standards in competency-based instruction. We looked at how to align them to any subject area and the ISTE standards. We learned how to create proficiency scales. And finally, we reflected on how proficiency-based instruction and evaluation will change your practice.
If you walk into any classroom today, you're likely to see posted somewhere on the wall targets and I can statements. In this unit, we looked at how to turn those standards into kid-friendly I can statements, and how to use them effectively.
With so many amazing researchers thinking and writing about this topic, we just scratched the surface with such giants as Robert Marzano, Thomas Guskey, and [INAUDIBLE] Reid. Their focus on standards-based instruction and evaluation have led the way in education reform. It's a good idea to dig deeper and look more at their work.
In this unit, we looked at many standards that teachers need to become familiar with, including those that are part of ISTE, the International Standards for Technology and Education. We also looked at how to create proficiency scales using standards by following these steps. Take a moment to review them. In this unit, we also looked at the big picture. We took a closer look at the many components that are needed to implement competency-based instruction and evaluation with fidelity.
Finally, I'd like to leave you with this food for thought. And I'm going to pose it as a challenge. Choose a book written by one of the authors mentioned in this unit and start a book discussion group with your colleagues.
Be sure to check out the additional resources section that accompany each video presentation for valuable resources and more information. Good luck, and thanks for participating. Have a great day.
