Teaching 2-D and 3-D Shapes

Students will be able to identify, name, describe, compare, and locate 2-D and 3-D shapes.  They will use pattern blocks and geo solids to 

Two-dimensional shapes (especially those found in pattern blocks: triangle, trapezoid, square, hexagon, and rhombus) are introduced.  Students work with shapes will include comparing, developing problem-solving strategies, and distinguishing defining attributes from nondefining attributes.  Composite shapes will be created, puzzles solved, and shapes drawn from pattern blocks.

Three-dimensional shapes are identified, named, described, compared and located in the environment.  The focus will be cubes, rectangular prisms, cones, cylinders, spheres, triangular prisms, and pyramids.
