The Periodic Table

The Periodic Table

Author: Ashton Lovern

At the end of this lesson, the student will be able to interpret the arrangement of the Periodic Table,  including groups and periods, to explain how properties are used to classify elements.

The elements on the periodic table are arranged according to their physical and chemical properties.  Elements in the same Period (row) or group (column) share certain properties.  Also, metals are on the left side of the table and most of the middle, nonmetals are on the right side of the table, and metalloids are in between in a stair-step pattern.  Therefore, knowing where an element is on the periodic table can help you understand its properties.
