Using Systems to Solve Digit and Coin Problems

Author: Aaron Nunley
Description:

The student will use Systems of Linear Equations to solve Digit and Coin Problems.

This is a continuation from a series of lessons on applications of systems.  The teacher emphasizes the point that all digit and coin problems are solved in fundamentally the same manner.  By recognizing that Digit problems are solved using both a "Digit Equation" and a "Value Equation" and that Coin problems are solved using a "Number of Coins" equation and a "Value of Coins" equation" the student can begin to look for these patterns as they solve a variety of real-life problems.
