This tutorial is targeted to 3rd grade students and aligns with standard LAFS.3.RL.1.2: "Recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures; determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text."


After viewing this lesson, students should be able to:

  • describe a fable as a fictional story that has a lesson or moral as the central message and often includes animals or inanimate objects as characters
  • identify the moral of a fable after reading it
  • describe the setting and the main characters after reading a fable
