First off what is a “Blended Learning Environment”? Heather Staker in the Rise of K12 Blended Learning, defines this learning method as: “any time a student learns at least in part at a supervised brick and mortar location away from home and at least in part through online delivery with some element of student control over time, place, path, and/or pace.” BLE’s are becoming more and more widespread in schools in the US. Some of the contributing factors for this expansion are:
- cost saving
- making specific courses more available to students
- the push for improving student scores on mandated state testing
- student control over his/her learning environment
