This packet provides an example ad deconstruction essay and asks students to write their own. Students will first view the commercial and then read the example essay, paying close attention to format and persuasion techniques. Next, students will choose a commercial to deconstruct and write an essay that follows the example. Before submitting the essay for grading, students will edit and revise.

Choose a commercial to write about. Deconstruct the ad following the Trix example above.
Be sure to include and describe the persuasion techniques used in the ad to sell the product. Edit your essay when you are done and use spell check.

Make sure your essay follows the same format as the Trix example:

Part 1- The first part should describe the ad or commercial and relate it to your life.
Part 2- The second part should include why you chose this particluar ad or commercial to deconstruct.
Part 3The final part should list the persuasion techniques used and describe how they are used in the ad/commercial. Be specific.
