Hello! Anthony here! I hold degrees in Education with a Specialization in Mathematics, as well as in German Studies, both from the University of Minnesota Duluth. I am licensed to teach mathematics in the state and Minnesota, and am currently enrolled in a Masters of Education program specializing in Instructional Design for Online Learning. My program is through Capella University.
My educational experiences are varied. In addition to working in Duluth Public Schools, I have worked as a Tutor with the AVID program in the Saint Paul Public Schools, as well as a Math Teacher and Department Lead for LearningWorks at Blake, an enrichment program for middle schoolers in Minneapolis Public Schools.
I began contracting for Sophia in October 2011, and have enjoyed every minute. I authored content for the Sophia Pathways, helped organize the taxonomy for the many different levels of math we have on the site, and reviewed many of the quiz items you see next to our math concepts. I have also authored some screencasts for our College Algebra Pathway.
I'm currently working for Sophia as an Academic Support Coordinator for Sophia Pathways for College Credit. I help facilitate the production and review of the video tutorials that go into our SPCC courses. I get to use technology everyday to reach teachers and learners around the globe. Plus, I'm always exercising and learning new skills. Could it get any better?
Hey everyone! I am Amanda and I am a biology content author and learning coach for Sophia. I have developed content for the middle and high school pathways as well as for the human biology college credit course. I absolutely love working with such a great company! I graduated from St. Cloud State University in 2007 with a degree in Secondary Science Education. Prior to graduation I lived in Costa Rica for the summer doing research on dolphins! I taught middle school science for a few years after graduation and then took my teaching expertise to China to teach English for six months. After my arrival home from China I began working with Sophia in the fall of 2011. I enjoy all things science related especially environmental sciences and genetics. In my free time I love traveling! I also enjoy being outdoors, reading and spending time with family and friends. Life is good :)
Bill Nye is a man with a mission: to foster a scientifically literate society by helping people everywhere understand and appreciate the science that makes our world work. Nye has spent the past 20 years educating students young and old about science and understands the importance of keeping minds active after the last school bell rings. “Learning can happen anywhere and at anytime – the important thing is that it should never stop,” Nye said. “We’ve put together fun, free and easy activities that will make this the summer of learning versus the summer filled with the dreaded words ‘I’m bored.’ ” AN EARLY KNACK FOR HOW THINGS WORK Making science entertaining and accessible is something Bill has done most of his life. Growing up in Washington, D.C., he spent afternoons and summers de-mystifying math for his classmates. While working for Boeing in Seattle, Bill combined his love of science with his flair for comedy. After winning a Steve Martin look-alike contest, he became an engineer by day and a stand-up comic by night. Eventually, Bill made the transition to comedy writer and performer on Seattle’s home-grown ensemble comedy show “Almost Live.” This is where “Bill Nye the Science Guy®” was born. The 18-time Emmy Award-winning show appeared before Saturday Night Live and later on Comedy Central. During this time, he also wrote five kids’ books about science, including his latest title, “Bill Nye’s Great Big Book of Tiny Germs.” BROADENING HIS MISSION Bill’s passion for math and science translated into a love of space. His role as CEO of The Planetary Society, the world’s large space interest organization, has taken him across the globe. And one thing Bill is very proud of is the MarsDials, two sundials on residing on Mars he created with Cornell scientists. America’s favorite stand-up scientist hasn’t changed much from that kid growing up in Washington, DC. He still rides his bike to work. He’ll pull out his Periodic Table of the Elements from his wallet. And his drive for helping others understand science is as strong as ever.

After earning a degree in physics, I started down the path of education. I've taught high school science at various levels in a variety of places around the world: New Mexico, England, and here in Minnesota. Additionally, I've worked in various galleries at the Science Museum of Minnesota. In addition to teaching, I'm an avid SciFi fan with Doctor Who ranking at the top. I also love dancing of any sort, but my specialty is tap dance. I practice archery, drawing, and cross stitch as well.
I am originally from Guyana, South America. I came to the U.S in 1991 and lived in Brooklyn, New York for about four years before moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota where I currently live. I went to the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, where I attended the Institute of Technology and received degrees in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering. I currently work as a Learning Coach at Sophia and am pursing a masters degree in Instructional Design for Online Learning from Capella University. My goal for Sophia is to provide a clear understanding of math and science concepts by relating them to elementary ideas. My hope is that the method(s) I employ will make what seem to be very complex ideas much more approachable and appreciated.
