I graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S in Chemistry and Mathematics along with an education certification. My career began in Utah teaching junior high math and high school chemistry. I spent 22 years in the classroom as a science teacher in the Rosemount, Apple Valley, Eagan School District. I have taught physics, AP, honors, general and concept level Chemistry. Currently, I am a Professional Development Specialist working in the School of Education at Capella University.
During the summer, I facilitate week long workshops for new and experienced chemistry teachers at Hamline University with Prof. Matt Morgan. As a team, we cover content as well as current best practices in the science classroom including inquiry and digital resources.
I am also employed by the College Board as an AP Chemistry Consultant where I facilitate day-long to week-long workshops for classroom teachers. I believe one of the best ways to improve my professional practice is to network with teachers from all over the country and I enjoy the opportunities this provides.
My story starts out with being a student at Capella University, with a desire to finish my BA in business with a specialty in Marketing. I will be honest I HATE MATH, nothing against the teacher or whomever. Well I will give this class a try, here I go, wish me luck. Sherry g
Aloha e! My name is Harold Ames and I am an alumni of Capella University. I am using Sophia to develop an online environment for future students at a charter school here on the N. Shore of Maui. I have Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology but have not taught formally at any schools. I don't see pedagogy much different than my applied skills in psychology and in the field. I am the Founder & President of the Hawai'i Association for Industrial-Organizational Psychology. I am looking to launch the Institute of Industrial-Organizational Psychology in the next few years. I would love to bring the field of psychology to middle school and high school levels to make pathways into Capella University.
