Hello! I lead the market research and development for Sophia Learning. I welcome your questions, ideas, challenges, and praise. Feel free to email me through Sophia or click the Feedback button on the right of every page. Thank you.
I graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S in Chemistry and Mathematics along with an education certification. My career began in Utah teaching junior high math and high school chemistry. I spent 22 years in the classroom as a science teacher in the Rosemount, Apple Valley, Eagan School District. I have taught physics, AP, honors, general and concept level Chemistry. Currently, I am a Professional Development Specialist working in the School of Education at Capella University. During the summer, I facilitate week long workshops for new and experienced chemistry teachers at Hamline University with Prof. Matt Morgan. As a team, we cover content as well as current best practices in the science classroom including inquiry and digital resources. I am also employed by the College Board as an AP Chemistry Consultant where I facilitate day-long to week-long workshops for classroom teachers. I believe one of the best ways to improve my professional practice is to network with teachers from all over the country and I enjoy the opportunities this provides.
I helped build Sophia and the team of talented people working together to create new ways to approach education. Sophia is a place where everyone can participate in teaching and learning, and where the traditional boundaries of schools and classrooms will fade into history. I joined Sophia in 2009 to help answer a question: “If we could create an online learning experience today, in the world of Facebook, YouTube and Wikipedia … what would it be like?” What a great way to start a company! I am proud of what the Sophia team has created. Join Sophia. Help someone learn. It makes for a better world.
For the past 20 years, I have been engaged as an educational researcher, evaluator and professor of educational policy. Areas of expertise include education reform, policy implementation and effectiveness, post-secondary attainment and socio-economic disadvantage. My publications address the social institutions and policies designed to promote educational advancement for students, especially the socially disadvantaged. Teaching and research associations over the past 20 years include the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign, University of Minnesota and Stanford University. I hold a Ph. D. and M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.A. from Lawrence University.
I'm the Founder and co-creator of Sophia and I love to create new things. I have a deep passion for education and technology, and I spend a lot of time thinking about how they could come together more effectively. I earned my bachelor's degree in U.S. History from the University of Wisconsin and my MBA from the University of Minnesota. I'm also the proud father of three daughters who give me a lot of great feedback on how to improve Sophia. I hope you'll send me your thoughts and ideas about Sophia. You can also feel free to share your thoughts on education, technology, American history (my personal passions are presidential and immigration history), music, songwriting, or baseball. I’d love to hear from you. - Don

My name is Poonam Roy from India. I’ve been around the web development industry long enough to have actually used a NeXT computer. Since I know that in order to succeed specialization is key. That’s why I’ve stayed where I’m good at. And today I still keep my job at an offshore CodeIgniter development company India.
