Bio

About 15 years ago, I obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting hoping to work for the IRS or in an accounting firm, however I soon learned sitting behind a desk all day with a stack of papers was not for me! Applied for a Computer Software instructor position at a Business/Technology school---and it changed my life forever. After accepting the job, I quickly learned I found something I was very passionate about and wanted to continue doing for some time.

Since this experience, I returned to school and obtained my MBA. Taught computer applications for over 10 years (Microsoft Office Suites) and I am Microsoft Office Specialist certified in versions '97- 10.

After many years in technology (and the constant upgrades, quirks, new books), I needed (and desperately) wanted to teach other areas. Expressing my desires to my division chair, I began teaching Principles of Microeconomics and Principles of Macroeconomics about 8 years ago. And today I teach Applied Business Statistics, Principles of Accounting I and II in addition the Economics core classes. I also rotate an Ecommerce course as well.

All though I don’t directly teach software application courses currently, I do integrate technology in all of my classes. For instance, Microsoft Excel is used in the Statistics course, videos of current events for the Economics courses, PowerPoint lectures, ect. I am very excited of the possibilities of Sophia.org and can envision it being useful in my courses as a way to distribute knowledge, not only for the courses I teach, but as a Web 2.0 tool for educators and students to interact in a social media environment where learning becomes a lifelong achievement.
