I am a Professor of Acoustics and Director of Distance Education for the Graduate Program in Acoustics at The Pennsylvania State University. I earned my Ph.D. in Acoustics from Penn State in 1995 (with a background in physics and music) and from 1995-2011 was a member of the physics faculty at Kettering University in Flint, MI.
I have been a music teacher for the past six years. I spent four years teaching in a Chicago suburb school which is where I taught K-6 general music. For the past two years I've been teaching in a rural school district outside of Rapid city where I teach K-12 music including band and choir. I am still involved with music as I play my flute with a group at my church and continue to seek out performance opportunities. I love attending concerts and musicals, but I also love to dance and speak Spanish (which I have a minor in from college) and I also love studying other countries and cultures.
I'm the Founder and co-creator of Sophia and I love to create new things. I have a deep passion for education and technology, and I spend a lot of time thinking about how they could come together more effectively. I earned my bachelor's degree in U.S. History from the University of Wisconsin and my MBA from the University of Minnesota. I'm also the proud father of three daughters who give me a lot of great feedback on how to improve Sophia. I hope you'll send me your thoughts and ideas about Sophia. You can also feel free to share your thoughts on education, technology, American history (my personal passions are presidential and immigration history), music, songwriting, or baseball. I’d love to hear from you. - Don
