Grade(s): Middle School
I have been teaching mathematics to middle schoolers for 10 years. I have been teaching 8th grade math for 11 years now. Also, I am the Math Department Head in my school for the past 9 years as well. I teach my students through the "Flipped Classroom" model. This means that the students watch the content videos at home, and practice the content at school through applications and investigations. I have three loves in my life, my Heavenly Father, my Family, and Mathematics. I spend my time outside of the classroom relaxing with my family, praising/worshiping my Heavenly Father, and researching new ways to teach math to my wonderful middle schoolers.
I am in my sixth year of teaching at Clio High School in Clio, Michigan. I've never been afraid to try something new and jumped at the chance to try flipping my Algebra 1 classes during the 2012-2013 school year. Never before have I had so much one-on-one time with my students and opportunities to differentiate and meet their needs. I continually look for ways to improve what I'm doing in the classroom and incorporate technology in meaningful ways. During the 2013-2014 school year I will be implementing a mastery method for flipping which will be made easier with all that Sophia has to offer. I enjoy spending time with my family listening to them make music, hanging out in the woods, and taking great joy in their sense of humor.
