I am a high school mathematics teacher in Southern California who absolutely loves to make math meaningful and memorable to my students. I currently teach Algebra 1 to 9th and 10th graders, and Math Analysis Honors to 11th and 12th graders. I teach using a "Flipped Classroom" model, where my students receive instruction at home via video and then come to class ready to discuss, think and work together, and solve problems. Outside of teaching, I enjoy relaxing with my husband, reading fiction, going on walks, and watching our favorite shows on Hulu.
Welcome to 2013-2014 school year. I am very excited to start my new teaching career at Somerset Academy. Previously, I have worked in the Clark County School District for 21 years. Originally in 1991, my career with the Clark County School District began as a Counselor's Secretary and moved my way up to Office Manager's Position in 1993. The year of 2005 I attended a one year CoHort Program at UNLV and recieved my Special Education License Bachelors Degree. Then, in 2006, I began working at May Elementary and since then have attended a one year Masters Program and this year a Masters Program +32 which will be completed this summer. I am looking forward to working with each and everyone with you. My goal is to have students succeed and looking forward to a successful year!
I graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S in Chemistry and Mathematics along with an education certification. My career began in Utah teaching junior high math and high school chemistry. I spent 22 years in the classroom as a science teacher in the Rosemount, Apple Valley, Eagan School District. I have taught physics, AP, honors, general and concept level Chemistry. Currently, I am a Professional Development Specialist working in the School of Education at Capella University. During the summer, I facilitate week long workshops for new and experienced chemistry teachers at Hamline University with Prof. Matt Morgan. As a team, we cover content as well as current best practices in the science classroom including inquiry and digital resources. I am also employed by the College Board as an AP Chemistry Consultant where I facilitate day-long to week-long workshops for classroom teachers. I believe one of the best ways to improve my professional practice is to network with teachers from all over the country and I enjoy the opportunities this provides.
I love collaborating with teachers on how to integrate technology into their classrooms to engage students.
