Bio

James first started becoming interested in music after encouragement from an outstanding year 4 teacher at his primary school leading to him becoming a chorister. Under the supervision of Richard Earl James studied singing with the Royal School of Church and excelled achieving his Dean's and Bishops awards. In his time as a chorister he appeared on two albums with a solo performance on one with then organist of St. Georges Chapel Windsor Teilhard Scott.

Whilst still singing James began his instrumental career playing Clarinet, but had an opportunity to take up piano starting a lifelong obsession. Fuelled by excellent teachers and a passion for music he took his GCSE in music early achieving near perfect marks in all sections, continuing to study A level music. In his time at college he became interested in musical theatre gaining lead roles in many productions including; Grease, Sweet Charity, Sweeney Todd and the Wizard of OZ. His big break however came with being cast as Fagin in the international youth tour production of Oliver performing across Europe and then into Asia finishing in Japan.

Once he completed his college education James choose to study at the then small music department at what was then University College Chichester. It was here that he met two other important influences on his musical career his piano tutor Adrian West and Lecturer and Choirmaster Arthur Robson. At the piano focusing on performing works of eastern european performers including Rachmaninoff, Skriabin and chopin. Accompanying the University Chamber Choir, Recorder group and early music ensemble. Continuing his passion for singing with the University Chamber Choir, Chichester Corale and forming his own Barbershop Quartet and was found regularly singing in services at Chichester and Salisbury Cathedrals and making appearances as a soloist for performances of Crucifixion, Messiah, St. Matthew Passion to name a few.

Having left University whilst waiting to start his Postgraduate Certificate of Education at the University of Sussex James began temping for musicians in the west end pit and tours playing in productions including; Wicked, Top Hat, Phantom of the Opera, Hairspray, Rent (MD Touring), Fame (MD Touring). James went straight from his PGCE into secondary teaching in southampton and is now the Head of Music at St Mary's College Independent day school.
