School: CROSSROADS ALTN HIGH SCHOOL, COON RAPIDS MN
I have been teaching high school science in Minnesota since January of 2002. Most of my teaching experience has been with at-risk student populations. This means that I have had to teach science to students who didn't usually want to be in school. I have enjoyed this challenge and have learned immensely from it. Making science relevant to my students is my main goal and I hope that some of those tendencies are found in any packets I create on Sophia.
I have taught all the different High school sciences for 21 years in MN.
I have been teaching for 12 years- 11 of those have been at Benilde-St. Margaret's. I am currently teaching biology and chemistry but have also taught physical science for many years. In my spare time, I love to travel and hanging out with my miniature Australian shepherd Macey.
I am new to teaching, but not to learning. I am fascinated by the different technologies that we can use to increase knowledge. My undergraduate degree is in archaeology, where my focus was on biological anthropology--basically the study of ancient humans, such as Australopithecus and Homo erectus species. My newest interest is ecology, and how we can protect and preserve our planet and species that are living on it. I am currently working on my graduate degree in Education. My goal after that is to go to the University of Arizona. I also like to cook, see movies, read fantasy novels, go to rock concerts, and be outside.
I am a biology instructor and varsity girls' basketball coach at Benilde-St. Margaret's School in St. Louis Park, Mn.
I am married to a wonderful man and have a son who just graduated from high school. I have been teaching science for almost 5 years and love it. I feel like it is so rewarding and that I am making a difference in young people's life and they are enjoying learning about science and having fun doing so.
I am Faculty for the school of Technology and Design at Rasmussen College, Brooklyn Park, MN. I teach classes on computer hardware and software including Windows desktop and server operating systems. I also teach courses in network architecture and network security. I have an Active Directory network set up in my home that includes DHCP, file, and application servers. (I'd set up a print server if consumer inkjets could be installed on server operating systems.) Though I do not currently teach in these areas, I have knowledge and enjoy teaching MS Office and Algebra (I know, I'm weird). I have some very basic programming knowledge, though the majority of programming I've done was in Fortran in the mid nineties. I understand basic database principles and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Access. My personal interests include movies in general, but with an eye on Science Fiction and animation. I love the Minnesota Vikings and football in general. Baseball is okay. Video games are awesome; Xbox and Wii populate my house, though at times I miss some games on my PS2.
