Experiment : Baking soda + Vinegar releases carbon dioxide into the air from the solution. What happens: the acetic acid in vinegar reacts with sodium bicarbonate/baking soda to form a carbonic acid. Carbonic acid is unstable so it breaks down into carbon dioxide and water which is a decomposition reaction. Carbon dioxide is then released from the solution and as it is heavier than air, it overflows the container almost like water.
