I am passionate about English, Literature, Poetry, Language, and Reading. I also like earth and space science, as well as anatomy and biology. I love hiking, origami, and traveling. More than anything I like to spend time reading or playing with my dog, Brekean. I like to think of teaching and tutoring as a partnership built between the educator and the student: we both have to come prepared with questions and an open mind to get the most out of our time together. I like hands-on learning, and the benefit of immediately applying newly learned skills. I've learned more from being wrong or making mistakes during the learning process than I have from getting it right the first time, which has taught me to value perseverance and creativity.
I earned my Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from North Carolina State University. I have over five years experience teaching English, including Basic Grammar, Introductory and Advanced Composition, and Creative Writing. I also have taught courses in Study Skills and Public Speaking. I have worked as a tutor and with students from whom English is a second language.
After teaching Secondary English for eight years, I decided to pursue a career in virtual education and curriculum writing in order to stay home with my son, Nate. I have a BA in English from Texas A&M University and a M.Ed from Towson University (Towson, Maryland). I moved from Houston to Baltimore in 2005 because of my husband's job.
