School: MARIA CARRILLO HIGH, Santa Rosa CA
I have over 30 years in education as a high school science teacher. I currently teach anatomy/physiology, biology, and earth science at Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa, California.
I have a PhD in Geological Sciences from Queen's University in Kingston, Canada. I did my postdoctoral fellowship at Los Alamos National Lab before taking up a faculty position at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. At U of M, I taught undergraduate and graduate courses and did research. In 2001, I was awarded the Hawley Medal of the Mineralogical Association of Canada. I left the University for family reasons and followed my husband (who also has a PhD in Geological Sciences) overseas. I lived in the Philippines for 7 years and Indonesia for 5 years. In Jakarta, I taught at New Zealand International School and ACG International School. In addition to Earth Sciences, I'm very interested in the link between diet, nutrition and health, which led to my position as Associate Director of the Healthy Nation Coalition (www.forahealthynation.org). For fun, I read about brain research.
