My life has been a long, strange trip. I am now preparing to teach secondary science and perhaps math. I have a PhD in Molecular Biology (Vanderbilt Univ) and a MDiv (University of the South). I am the father of four inquisitive daughters, I enjoy reading, hiking, gardening, and cooking.
I am a high school teacher in Alabama where I teach Honors Biology, Honors Anatomy, and Honors Genetics classes. I am a mother of 4 and a grandmother of 3. I love learning and teaching and am very excited with the exponential growth of technology and how it is changing the classroom. My career goal is to make a productive educational impact on all students I interact with each year so they can become a society that is informed and productive.
I teach chemistry in a rural community. There are challenges, but there is a lot to enjoy and I do my best to spread knowledge and encourage critical thinking.
I graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S in Chemistry and Mathematics along with an education certification. My career began in Utah teaching junior high math and high school chemistry. I spent 22 years in the classroom as a science teacher in the Rosemount, Apple Valley, Eagan School District. I have taught physics, AP, honors, general and concept level Chemistry. Currently, I am a Professional Development Specialist working in the School of Education at Capella University. During the summer, I facilitate week long workshops for new and experienced chemistry teachers at Hamline University with Prof. Matt Morgan. As a team, we cover content as well as current best practices in the science classroom including inquiry and digital resources. I am also employed by the College Board as an AP Chemistry Consultant where I facilitate day-long to week-long workshops for classroom teachers. I believe one of the best ways to improve my professional practice is to network with teachers from all over the country and I enjoy the opportunities this provides.
I am a Chemistry teacher at Maple Grove Senior High in Maple Grove, MN. I love working with students and believe that challenging students at their ability level is important to get them ready for post high school success. An appropriate level of challenge helps you learn time management and study skills! I am a visual learner, but I try to remember that not everyone can be successful by just reading information. I love science, and believe that science and technology are important fields for all students to study. My hobbies involve reading and gardening, along with camping and enjoying the outdoors. One of my favorite places to camp is the North Shore of Lake Superior. My daughter is my camping companion most of the time, and our goal is to camp and hike in every state. We have been to many, but still have quite a lot to go!
I am a high school mathematics teacher in Southern California who absolutely loves to make math meaningful and memorable to my students. I currently teach Algebra 1 to 9th and 10th graders, and Math Analysis Honors to 11th and 12th graders. I teach using a "Flipped Classroom" model, where my students receive instruction at home via video and then come to class ready to discuss, think and work together, and solve problems. Outside of teaching, I enjoy relaxing with my husband, reading fiction, going on walks, and watching our favorite shows on Hulu.
