I am a self-motivated learner willing to share my journey and experiences with others, as I morph into a tech-savvy teacher along the way. I teach art at Lee L. Driver Middle School in Winchester, Indiana. It is very rural area with a high poverty rate. Despite the challenges of poverty, my students love technology and my classroom has evolved this year with augmented reality art apps being used. I have discovered on Twitter, and with my art students, new apps for iPad to create digital artwork. I have used Artsonia.com for three years now to publish student artwork. In addition, I promote language arts skills by requiring students to write artist titles and statements to each published artwork. I have and use an Apple TV with wifi, iPevo camera, one iPad 2, and my classroom MacBook Air for embedding technology applications in my art room.
I'm the Founder and co-creator of Sophia and I love to create new things. I have a deep passion for education and technology, and I spend a lot of time thinking about how they could come together more effectively. I earned my bachelor's degree in U.S. History from the University of Wisconsin and my MBA from the University of Minnesota. I'm also the proud father of three daughters who give me a lot of great feedback on how to improve Sophia. I hope you'll send me your thoughts and ideas about Sophia. You can also feel free to share your thoughts on education, technology, American history (my personal passions are presidential and immigration history), music, songwriting, or baseball. I’d love to hear from you. - Don
