I graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S in Chemistry and Mathematics along with an education certification. My career began in Utah teaching junior high math and high school chemistry. I spent 22 years in the classroom as a science teacher in the Rosemount, Apple Valley, Eagan School District. I have taught physics, AP, honors, general and concept level Chemistry. Currently, I am a Professional Development Specialist working in the School of Education at Capella University. During the summer, I facilitate week long workshops for new and experienced chemistry teachers at Hamline University with Prof. Matt Morgan. As a team, we cover content as well as current best practices in the science classroom including inquiry and digital resources. I am also employed by the College Board as an AP Chemistry Consultant where I facilitate day-long to week-long workshops for classroom teachers. I believe one of the best ways to improve my professional practice is to network with teachers from all over the country and I enjoy the opportunities this provides.
This is my 26th year in education. I supervise the Guidance, Mathematics, Science and Family and Consumer Science departments at Eastview High School in Apple Valley, MN. I am very proud to work at Eastview High School and within the world of education. I have the unique opportunity to work with students and families everyday. I have 10 years experience as the Athletics Director. Currently, my responsibilities will now shift to include work within the student services department while providing leadership for the scheduling and registration of students. Additionally, I work with our probationary teachers to enable their professional growth as they gain experience. I am also involved with our peer review team working with the continued growth of our veteran teachers specifically working on one of our initiatives to develop assessments to improve our students' learning. I have also worked with a non-profit vendor to develop a dynamic, live, integrated web-based information center for the Lake Conference so that our community has accurate "real-time" access to our athletic and building schedules.I began my teaching career in Mexico, Missouri at Mexico High School as a biology and physical science teacher. I also enjoyed coaching football and boys' track and field. I then took advantage of on opportunity to coach football at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. I coached two seasons for the Huskies before taking a position with Eagan High School in Eagan, Minnesota to teach biology and earth science while coaching football, baseball, and boys' track and field. Following my 4th year at Eagan, I began a new adventure at Eastview High School as an inaugural member of the staff. I earned my B.S.E. in Secondary Biology Education in 1988 from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. I am intrigued by the idea of this social network for teaching and learning and am excited to be piloting the use of the software with teachers at Eastview High School.
