Grade(s): Middle School
I am known as "Mrs. Q" at my campus, Memorial Middle School in Harlingen, Texas. We are just a 20-minute drive north of the southern-most tip of Texas. I teach 8th grade Reading-Language Arts. I am also a co-coordinator of our UIL academic program, a UIL sponsor for duet and solo acting, and co-director of our award-winning UIL 1-act play. Previously, I taught composition courses as a lecturer and graduate student at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. I hold a BA in communications-journalism and an MA in English from TAMUK. I am Texas teacher certified for grades 4-8 and 8-12 in English Language Arts Reading and English as a Second Language, Supplemental.
When the weather's good and I don't have to haul anything large, I enjoy riding my Harley Davidson Softail Deluxe to school (or anywhere else, for that matter). In the summer, my favorite activity is body-boarding at nearby South Padre Island. And I like being involved with the children and youth ministries at my church. I have academic interests, as well: researching different things, interacting with my students and colleagues, and finding ways to incorporate technology into my lessons. I think linguistics and literature are both fascinating - like games and puzzles.
