Hi! I'm Nikki. I was born to American parents in Germany but I grew up in Tokyo, Japan. I graduated high school in 2006, and moved to the US to start college! I am finishing up at the University of Minnesota in Dec 2010 and starting my Masters of Education program in June! My favorite color is green, my major is English and I have 2 cats.
Salutations! I have enjoyed teaching in Montgomery County Public Schools for nine years as a high school English teacher. My favorite subjects include Creative Writing, AP Language and Literature and TV Production. I have also taught 10th, 11th and 12th grade curricula on both regular and honors levels. While teaching, I also sponsored the school's literary magazine for several years. I hold a B.S. in English and Education as well as a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.
I am passionate about English, Literature, Poetry, Language, and Reading. I also like earth and space science, as well as anatomy and biology. I love hiking, origami, and traveling. More than anything I like to spend time reading or playing with my dog, Brekean. I like to think of teaching and tutoring as a partnership built between the educator and the student: we both have to come prepared with questions and an open mind to get the most out of our time together. I like hands-on learning, and the benefit of immediately applying newly learned skills. I've learned more from being wrong or making mistakes during the learning process than I have from getting it right the first time, which has taught me to value perseverance and creativity.
I have taught at the Middle School level for more than 10 years in the Baltimore area in private and public schools. Teaching grade levels from 5 - 8 has given me a lot of perspective on student needs in the classroom and at home when completing homework or long term assignments.
My name is Rebecca Oberg and I'm an English teacher (9th grade and Journalism) in Minneapolis specializing in the use of 21st century learning in the modern English/Language Arts classroom. Before teaching I attended the University of Minnesota, where I graduated Summa cum Laude with a BA in English Literature and Composition with minors in Geography and European Studies. I continued at the U of M, where I received my Masters of Education and licensure to teach English Communication Arts and Literature for grades 5-12. I have worked in urban and suburban schools, as well as with various other programs including Upward Bound. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy playing with my cocker spaniel dog Maggie as well as traveling, reading, learning Greek, and being an aunt to my two adorable nephews!
