The course was challenging and I liked that test taking was utilized over writing papers.
by shelly c. on January 4, 2017
I love the study of different religions. therefore I really enjoyed this class
by Jessica D. on January 4, 2017
i think there should be more information for the challenges. I felt that i has to watch videos multiple times to try and find the correct answer, or i would leave out a simple word like "the" and get no points.
Sophia replied on January 4, 2017

Hi Jessica - thanks for your feedback. Many students find that the written tutorials, along with the transcripted video tutorial for each unit are a nice companion tool for the instructor(s) video lessons. Hearing it and then reading it can help solidify the key terms you need to know for the unit assessments. We hope to see you again in a future Sophia course.

Great course! Awesome content.
by Chris B. on January 2, 2017
Great course and very interesting. Somewhat time consuming, be sure to have good notes on which tutorials cover each section during the proctor.
by Melissa B. on December 31, 2016
Great course, I learned a lot.
by Leanne G. on December 30, 2016
Easier than I thought it would be. I finished in 4 days. :) The only issue was a lot of the fill in the blank questions were too vague and random to figure out. They weren't key terms or anything, just random words that you had to try to search for in the videos. Even though I understood the concept of what it was trying to say, I still had a hard time just figuring out which word they wanted me to type in. Overall, easy class. :)
by Fabio B. on December 29, 2016
I liked the course, but the ID Milestone appeared to be a little bit disconnected, asking questions that were more a sort of interpretation of the course content. Each Milestones and ID Milestone appeared to be different, and even after reviewing my mistakes, I am convinced that it could have been structured differently.
Sophia replied on December 29, 2016

Congratulations on your recent course completion! The 25 questions that form the ID Verification Milestone are alternate versions of questions you answered on the various unit Milestones in the course. They can be taken from any/all units of the course, so a thorough course review is a good way to be prepared for the final ID Verification Milestone.

  • Q: Does Sophia accept third-party payment for tuition, such as financial aid or military benefits?
A: Sophia courses are not eligible for most third party payment methods, and must be paid for by credit or debit card. Tuition is due at the time of course registration. Sophia offers both full and partial payment plans as part of the registration process.
  • Q: When do the courses start and how long do I have to complete a course?
A: You choose your own start date and have 60 days to complete each course. However, because the courses are self-paced, you can complete them in fewer than 60 days.
  • Q: Where do I get the textbooks for my course?
A: You do not need any textbooks for Sophia courses. All material is taught by video and text-based tutorials that are in the course room, and are included in the cost.
  • Q: How am I graded in the course?
A: Your overall score is derived from how you do on two types of assessments: Challenges, which are formative assessments, and Milestones, which are summative assessments. (Sophia’s English Composition I course also includes written assignments, called Touchstones, that also contribute to your overall score.)

Sophia courses are graded on a pass/fail basis. No letter grade is issued for a completed course.
  • Q: How do I know which courses I should take?
A: Consult with your academic adviser at your university to determine specifically which Sophia courses could fit into your program. You can download the course syllabus directly from our site to share with your school advisor.
