I had some credits left to complete my BS degree but not enough time. I took this course and finished it within 4 days. The fact that the course is self-paced and easy to use, saved me. I knew nothing about any of the information here, but the course makes it easy and enjoyable. I like Ian the instructor, but I recommend you also check Sophia tutorials as there is a lot of required artwork. Some people complain about the questions formatting, but the questions are fine. This is not a difficult course, just a lot of info which needs time to sink in. Proctor is a pain in the neck. In one session I spoke to a dozen of them because none of them knew how to get my camera working, and worse, none of them was able to explain to me what is going on or why I'm waiting. Till the very end, one proctor figured it out after many trials. Two hours of needless proctor stress. I love Sophia courses and I hope they find a way to either improve this proctor phase or eliminate it.

I did not think that I would enjoy this course as much as I did. It is a lot of material to cover and is almost like a language lesson as the terms used are very rarely ever used in normal conversation unless you are speaking specifically about art in relation to location and time. I am happy that I took it and have a much deeper appreciation for art than I would have otherwise had without background and perspective.
by Becky D. on June 21, 2018
Overall the class can be finished very quickly. It is fairly easy.
by Tammy D. on June 10, 2018
I found this class very interesting, and easy to follow, the open book milestones made it slightly easier when stumped with a few questions.
by Jenny S. on June 8, 2018
It was an interesting and challenging.

Great course, easy to understand and I loved being able to self-pace and work on it when it fit my schedule!

  • Q: Does Sophia accept third-party payment for tuition, such as financial aid or military benefits?
A: Sophia courses are not eligible for most third party payment methods, and must be paid for by credit or debit card. Tuition is due at the time of course registration. Sophia offers both full and partial payment plans as part of the registration process.
  • Q: When do the courses start and how long do I have to complete a course?
A: You choose your own start date and have 60 days to complete each course. However, because the courses are self-paced, you can complete them in fewer than 60 days.
  • Q: Where do I get the textbooks for my course?
A: You do not need any textbooks for Sophia courses. All material is taught by video and text-based tutorials that are in the course room, and are included in the cost.
  • Q: How am I graded in the course?
A: Your overall score is derived from how you do on two types of assessments: Challenges, which are formative assessments, and Milestones, which are summative assessments. Sophia’s English Composition I, Foundations of English Composition, and Public Speaking courses also include written assignments, called Touchstones, that also contribute to your overall score.
  • Q: How do I know which courses I should take?
A: Consult with your academic adviser at your university to determine specifically which Sophia courses could fit into your program. You can download the course syllabus directly from our site to share with your school advisor.
